U.S. National Tour 2015 – TBD.

“Moisture Content” installation by Lee Boroson at MASS MoCA in 2015.
Launched at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA) in 2014, New York-based artist Lee Boroson presented his largest exhibition to-date. Lee Boroson: Plastic Fantastic includes a wide array of expansive installations that immerse viewers in inflatables, fabric, and light to create phenomenological experiences based on elemental forces in nature (air, fog, smoke and fire) and the cosmos to explore our complicated relationship with plastic.
For the exhibition, Boroson recalls the 1960’s utopianism, and plastic as a symbol of the shiny and new. In the 21st Century however – with the rise of environmentalism, the overflow of plastic in landfills, and a whole island made of the material floating in the Pacific Ocean – this utopian thinking is far more complicated. By diverting manufactured plastics from consumer use into the realm of art, Plastic Fantastic is a sly nod to both the substance’s seductive nature and its lasting effect on the world around us. Plastic may poison the oceans, but it also has moved society forward – these are some of the complex issues explored by Boroson.
